Flow My Tears (Lachrimae pavane 1595)

from Echoes of Eternity Demo by Discord

about

Flow, my tears is a lute song (specifically, an "ayre") by the accomplished lutenist and composer John Dowland (1563 – buried 20 February 1626). The song and its melody became very well-known and influential, and are a prime example of the contemporary fashion for melancholia.

Originally composed as an instrumental under the name Lachrimae pavane in 1596, it is Dowland's most famous ayre,[1] and became his signature song, literally as well as metaphorically: he would occasionally sign his name "Jo. Dolandi de Lachrimae".

This is the brainchild of Violen and Salyara. Creating the world of Industrial Opera. Drawing on such influences as The Sisters of Mercy, VNV Nation, Switchblade Symphony and Nine Inch Nails.

All tracks will always be free, but donations are appreciated as they will help pay for recording gear and performance gear. As well as our invested time in the project.

lyrics

Flow, my tears, fall from your springs!
Exiled for ever, let me mourn;
Where night's black bird her sad infamy sings,
There let me live forlorn.

Down vain lights, shine you no more!
No nights are dark enough for those
That in despair their last fortunes deplore.
Light doth but shame disclose.

Never may my woes be relieved,
Since pity is fled;
And tears and sighs and groans
my weary days my weary days
Of all joys have deprived.

From the highest spire of contentment
My fortune is thrown;
And fear and grief and pain
for my deserts for my deserts
Are my hopes, since hope is gone.

Hark! you shadows that in darkness dwell,
Learn to contemn light
Happy, happy they that in hell
Feel not the world's despite.

Hark! you shadows that in darkness dwell,
Learn to contemn light
Happy, happy they that in hell
Feel not the world's despite.
